Event Details

Denise Silva-Dennis, also known as Weetahmoe, an aristed, retired public school art teacher, and member of the Shinnecock Nation, will lead a “Scallop Shell Necklace Workshop” while also teaching the participants about Shinnecock History, Arts, and Culture, and why seashells have always been an important part of Indigenous peoples’ culture in this region. Workshop attendees will learn about Long Island’s original name and the many Native Nations that thrived all over Long Island for over 10,000 years.
