Get ready to button-mash through the past in our Retro Rumble Smash Bros. Tournament—only classic characters allowed! Dust off your skills and rep your favorite old-school hero! 

Available characters are:

🕹️ Retro Rumble Roster

Only characters from Nintendo's 8-bit & 16-bit era (plus early 90s Game Boy/arcade classics)

🍄 Super Mario Series (1981–1985 origins)

  • Mario

  • Luigi

  • Peach

  • Bowser

  • Donkey Kong

🗡️ Legend of Zelda Series (1986)

  • Link (use Classic Link or default Breath of the Wild skin if needed)

  • Zelda

  • Ganondorf

👽 Metroid Series (1986)

  • Samus

  • Zero Suit Samus (Optional—she's the same character, but her solo debut is later)

🌈 Kirby Series (1992)

  • Kirby

  • King Dedede

🛸 Star Fox Series (1993)

  • Fox

Pokémon Series (1996)

  • Pikachu

  • Jigglypuff

👊 F-Zero Series (1990)

  • Captain Falcon

These characters are from franchises or versions that debuted after the retro era:

  • Any Fire Emblem characters

  • All newer Pokémon (like Lucario, Greninja, Incineroar)

  • All DLC characters (e.g. Joker, Steve, Sephiroth)

  • Any characters from franchises starting after 1996
